Ground Rules for Training
The ELCofSWFL has composed a set of rules which all trainers who train for the Early Learning Coalition will implement. We ask that you read these rules and follow them as well. We want to honor those of you who have followed them all along, and put them in writing to reinforce their importance. Please note: If you are not able to attend a training for which you have registered, you need to call the training entity at (239) 935-6189 and let them know. CEUs are offered through IACET (International Association for Continuing Education and Training). This requires that recipients be on time for the class, an assessment will be required at the end of the class and an evaluation must be filled out. The CEUs are recognized nationally.
Behavior by Design (Using Positive Guidance)
The Early Learning Coalition is offering a free 8-hour training on Behavior by Design. This 8-hour training is broken up into four 2-hour sessions and offers .8 CEU's. You must attend all four sessions to receive credit for training. This training will allow you to register 1 time only for all 4 sessions (2/10, 2/17, 2/24, 3/9):
- Session 1 - 2/10/2020 6:30pm - 8:30pm The ABCs of Behavior Learning Objectives: Explain how the ABC (antecedent, behavior, consequence) principles fit common situations in daily life and Practice examples of changing A's and C's for better B's
- Session 2 - 2/17/2020 6:30pm - 8:30pm Changing Don't to DO Learning Objectives: Change negative requests into positive statements and Give win-win choices that help promote problem-solving, critical thinking and independence
- Session 3 - 2/24/2020 6:30pm - 8:30pm Goals & Objectives (for ourselves and others) Learning Objectives: Write realistic goals and 4 part objectives for both the child and ourselves
- Session 4 - 3/9/2020 6:30 - 8:30 pm Catch Them Being Good! Learning Objectives: Phrase requests thoughtfully, using positive "what to do and why" wording with positives in both segments and Creative a classroom visual aid that helps acknowledge what's going well so the focus is on positives and building from there (strength based approach)
- Note: In weeks #1 & 2, we practice skills and bring back stories of success or concerns to discuss each of the following sessions. In Week #3, we continue weaving these skills into not just our words and actions but also practice our written ability to make clear, positive goals & objectives/benchmarks. We will each actively work on these in our daily lives so we can discuss success or concerns the following Week #4. (Once adults see how hard it is to follow through on their OWN goals that they made for their own habit changes, they tend to become more patient with children who aren't changing their ways fast enough.) Also prior to Week #4, we will discuss possibilities for creating the "Catch Them Being Good" visual aids in our final week. Everyone will bring what they created and share their stories on implementation. The intent will be for each person to create something they truly use at home or in their worksite to remind themselves and others to keep the focus on using POSITIVE guidance strategies.
