Ground Rules for Training

The ELCofSWFL has composed a set of rules which all trainers who train for the Early Learning Coalition will implement. We ask that you read these rules and follow them as well. We want to honor those of you who have followed them all along, and put them in writing to reinforce their importance. Please note: If you are not able to attend a training for which you have registered, you need to call the training entity at (239) 935-6189 and let them know. CEUs are offered through IACET (International Association for Continuing Education and Training). This requires that recipients be on time for the class, an assessment will be required at the end of the class and an evaluation must be filled out. The CEUs are recognized nationally.

Conscious Discipline (2 Part Training)

Class is held on two Saturdays: 10/5/19 and 10/12/19

The ten hour workshop focuses on Conscious Discipline, a comprehensive emotional intelligence and classroom management program based on current brain research, principles of child development and developmentally appropriate activities.

Conscious discipline moves teachers from judging children to describing their actions and efforts. It is based on safety, connection and problem solving, transforming rewards and punishment into critical thinking. A teacher who effectively practices conscious discipline is able to transform competitive environments into caring school families, troubled children into caring class members, and curious children into compassionate, happy learners.

There are seven basic skills of Conscious Discipline that will be put forth in the training session. These skills and strategies promote:

  1. Self-regulation in children through connectedness
  2. Cooperative problem solving
  3. Empowerment for victims and bullies so that they can successfully function in an inclusive classroom environment
